The Public Law Center was established in March, 2001 to assist the
growing number of self-represented litigants (parties to a lawsuit)
in our court. The Center is part of a creative public outreach project
undertaken by the court to improve access to justice for all members
of the community. The Center was established to provide the following:
- Help for people representing themselves in their legal matters.
- Education for the public about the role and function of the
court in our democratic society.
- Information to litigants and the public about alternatives to
civil litigation in resolving conflict.
- Networking with other community and public social service agencies
to enhance the provision of services and help ensure access to
justice.
Using the Center
The Center provides a number of options for people to use to help
themselves through the court process. Forms packets are available
with instructions for completion. Videos are available on a number
of subjects to view at the Center. People are also encouraged to
tour the courthouse and observe the courtroom in which they are
to appear before their scheduled appearance date so they can watch
what happens and be better prepared for their own court appearance.
